Kelly currently serves as an At-Large Director for the Texas Association for Literacy Education (TALE) Board of Directors. TALE  is the Texas affiliate for the International Literacy Association and is dedicated to promoting literacy in the education sector and consists of professional members that are committed to serving the learners in the State of Texas.​

Kelly is in her seventh year as a literacy advisor and board member for Directed Energy, a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of under-served children and youth in New York City and Los Angeles.  DE’s goal is to positively engage youth in learning about themselves through education in a weekly, out-of-school atmosphere focusing on physical, character and health education.
